I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving ~ we had the traditional turkey/ham and all the trimmings with twenty or so family members, then the Dude and I took off for Austin to attend the Braun Family Thanksgiving Get Together at The Moody Theater (home of Austin City Limits).  It was a great show.  In addition to Papa Braun, we also saw Reckless Kelly and Micky and the Motorcars all onstage together.  I love live music, especially from singer/songwriters such as these (give a listen to RK's Wicked, Twisted Road, it's one of my all time favorite songs), and you seriously can't beat strolling weird downtown Austin just for fun.

When we returned, I was pleased to find that ACX has provided me with numerous copies of the AUDIO version of STUTTER CREEK (She went looking for an old flame and found a serial killer instead) which was narrated by the bestselling author, Stephen Woodfin.  Go here to listen to a sample, http://ow.ly/r7MM0

Stevie-girl and the Phantom of Crybaby Bridge ~ Book 3 in the Phantom Series

          Thank you all for the lovely comments last week, and thanks for stopping by for another installment of Stevie-girl and the Phantom of Crybaby Bridge, Book 3 in the Phantom Series.  It should be out NEXT WEEK.  Whoohoo!  Ahem, okay, back to business...
          Last week, Jase and Stevie encountered an eerie woman in white coming toward them across the bridge.  Here's what happened next (I had to mashup a couple of sentences to make it 8 - forgive me.) It's told from Stevie-girl's POV.

         

          Still standing on the bridge, we were transfixed by the woman in white when we thought we heard the crying sound again.

         “Was that her?” I whispered.

         Jase shook his head.

         Suddenly, I caught a glimpse of movement as something pink floated out from under the bridge.

         “It’s a baby,” I shouted.  “In the water!”  I yanked Jase’s arm and pointed at the swirling, stuttering creek.

         The woman dove in and disappeared.  All that was left was a shimmer of white beneath the skin of the creek and a lazy splotch of long dark hair that floated outward around her head in a soft caul.

Stevie-girl and the Phantom of Crybaby Bridge

Hello Weekend Writing Warriors ~ since Stutter Creek has been released ~ and since I've already published two whole chapters on the 8 Sentence Sundays, I decided to change horses and put up a few lines from Book Three of The Phantom Series: Stevie-girl and the Phantom of Crybaby Bridge, which should be out later this month.  This series is told from Stevie's POV.  Below is the set up:

When they first arrive at the campsite, they are sent in search of makings for a campfire.  But the lure of the bridge is strong, so the two friends hurry down for a quick peek...




             "C'mon," Jase said. "We'd better find some stones for the campfire."

             As we turned to leave, a chill wind tore across the bridge and flung dirt and leaf debris directly into our faces.  We dropped hands and rubbed our eyes in disbelief. 

            Jase muttered, “What the heck was that?”

            I rubbed my vision clear and gazed into the gathering gloom at the opposite end of the bridge.  The wind whistled and whirled around our ankles like dusty water.

            Something doesn't want us here, I thought.
