Oh I so wish I would have read the first book before this one, I had it too and didn't realize!! So when I offered to read and review this for Ann Swann and give my honest opinion, I wish I had remembered, but, I will be going back and reading the first book in this series.
Ella and her son move into their new home. Its a safe place for them and they are just beginning to relax a bit.
The trouble is, not long after moving in, Nick her son hears some disturbance in the attic, which alarming he wakens Ella.
Both go in search of the source but find nothing.
After a couple of times of this happening Ella calls for the Police to come out and investigate, but it looks like its the wild life that are getting in. Even that didn't stop the antics in the attic though.
This was a gripping read, what with the husband now out, it could be him? Or could it?
Throw in a bit of romance too and you have a winner! I really did enjoy this book, so much so I have to go read the first book as it will tie up some loose thoughts in my head.
I don't know why I didn't read this authors book before, she has an absolutely lovely way of writing.

Joyland Review, Doctor Sleep preview

In honor of Halloween . . .

I loved Stephen King's Joyland, it was a place I wanted to return every time I had to close the book and go away.  It isn't horror.  It is a ghost story.  It is, in my opinion, a character driven ghost story, my favorite kind of tale.  Don't believe me?  Just read my ghost stories starring Jase and Stevie-girl.

Doctor Sleep arrived the day after I finished Joyland (yes, I'm a one-click addict with no plans for rehab), and the moment I read the inscription -- to Warren Zevon -- I knew I was going to like the book.  What I didn't count on was how the very reintroduction of Dick Halloran and Danny Torrance would immediately transport me back to my youth.  (Sidenote here,  thanks to Kimmie Orr, my hubby's cuz, I was able to attend a speech given by Stephen King at George Mason University a while back.  He was receiving an award, but he was also talking about Doctor Sleep, and I will admit, when he described the RV people, I really wondered how they could relate to little Danny Torrance, but guess what?  It all makes sense.  In a twisted, horror-story kind of way, which is the best way, of course).

I was a newlywed ~ 34 years ago ~ when someone gave me The Shining.  I read it almost nonstop in my little Freight Company office amidst the dust motes and cobwebs when I should have been cleaning and typing up way bills on the old Royal typewriter.  But I couldn't tear myself away from The Overlook Hotel, it was just too creepy, too intriguing, and too darn scary.  When the woman in Room 217 grabbed little Danny, I could've sworn the branches scratching on the old corrugated tin siding of the freight dock were her fingernails . . .

Now, back to the long-toothed woman in Doctor Sleep (yes, I could've easily been finished by now, but I'm pacing myself.  In other words, I don't want it to end).  On the other hand, I understand Dean Koontz is joining the .99 club.  I'll be checking out that bargain, too.

Afterthought:
Went to see the movie Rush.  Let me just say, I loved Opie, I loved Richie Cunningham, now I love Ron Howard.  We sort of almost grew up together, didn't we?  And in my humble opinion, he knows how to make an honest film.  He doesn't beat us about the head and shoulders with ideals.  He doesn't feel the need to change our politics. He tells stories.  That's why I will always go to a Ron Howard film.  Just like Stephen King, I simply love the way he tells a story.

Romantic Suspense ~ Stutter Creek ~ "One Hell of a Thriller" Review

I usually try to avoid posting my own work simply for shameless self-promotion, but my will power is at an all time low today, so here goes...

STUTTER CREEK, romantic suspense from 5 Prince Publishing.  A snippet and some reviews...

Suddenly, Beth made a decision. She rammed the Camaro's gearshift into first and stepped on the gas. Fishtailing back onto the road, she shifted up to second, and then third, keeping her eyes trained on the highway ahead. She knew the boy was no longer there, but what if he appeared while she was moving? What if he was somehow hanging onto the car like that old urban legend about the killer with a hook? What if he appeared while she was driving?

She thought if that happened, it might be the end. It would send her right over the edge of sanity into the cavern of insanity. One hand crept back up to her face, wanting to shield her eyes. She was afraid the boy wasn’t human. His face had seemed so pale, almost translucent. A little phantom.

Thank you, Ann Swann, for a beautifully crafted thriller. This book has it all, suspense, tension, romance, beautiful ladies, and an "I hate him immediately serial killer." If you love thrillers, this book is a must read. You will be hard pressed to put this book down until you turn that last page.

Ann Swann is a talented author whether she is writing a scary, suspense middle grade novel or a contemporary romance novel, but she outdid herself when she combined romance with suspense in her latest novel, Stutter Creek.

Ann knows how to craft a captivating suspense story. I became immersed in the novel immediately, and couldn't wait to find out what the next chapter held.
