6 Sentence Sunday -- The Phantom Student July8, 2012

Hi folks,
It's time for another 6 Sentence Sunday.  This snippet is taken from The Phantom Student which will be released soon from Cool Well Press.  It is book two of The Phantom Series.  In this scene, Jase and Stevie-girl are riding to school shortly after Stevie saw the strange image in her bathroom mirror--the image that seemed to be a reflection but looked away from her instead of directly at her.  They are passing by the abandoned elementary school when Stevie gets an odd feeling:

The old building was elegant, somehow.  The curved windows and brick courtyard gave it an air of gentility that the modern glass and concrete school just didn’t possess.
Jase had started riding again, slowly:  "You okay?"
I nodded; I couldn’t seem to speak.  As we put the school behind us, I turned for one more look and there in the window beside the front door, a small face was staring out.  She had wild white hair and pale, pale skin.

Okay, th-th-th-that's all folks!  For this week, at least.  Check back next week for another installment.  Should I continue with The Phantom Student, or should I revert to snippets from All For Love, my contemporary romance that's coming out soon?  And don't forget to check out other snippets here: http://www.sixsunday.com/

6 Sentence Sunday June 10, 2012

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARA BARNARD... MY LOVELY DAUGHTER!  LOVE YOU LOTS!!!

Here is another installment of All For Love aka How Long Does it Take to Fall Out of Love?  It has nothing to do with Sara's birthday LOL.  It was just a coincidence.  Today's snippet is a flashback, years before the explosion at the plant.  In this scene, Liz has decided to lure Quinn back home, even though she was on the verge of filing for divorce after she found out he had a lover:

Did he groan as I brushed against him to get to the door?  Could’ve been my imagination, but the next thing I knew, his hand was on my arm and he was turning me into the planes of his chest and it was as if everything was new again, but tarnished, dirty.  Maybe the tawdriness of it made me want him more; or perhaps it was desperation.  It was sort of an all or nothing gambit.  I took the lead and I didn’t care if he was satisfied or not.  I did what I wanted and I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that a lot of my desire was fueled by pure white-hot rage.

Okay, that's all for now.  Hope you check back next Sunday for another snippet.  If you want to read some more juicy excerpts from other authors, just go here: http://www.sixsunday.com/

6 Sentence Sunday June 3, 2012

Hello and welcome back,
Here is another installment of All For Love aka How Long Does it Take to Fall Out of Love?

In this scene, Liz is trying to cope with losing Quinn.  She has started going to the Main Street Pub and enjoying a Bloody Mary to help her sleep at night--but just one!  This particular evening, however, something pulls her back:

Just as I opened the door to rejoin the world, someone stuck a dollar in the jukebox and The Grassroots Live for Today floated into the air.  Quinn's song; the one he loved so much that he had put it on my phone for his personal ring tone.  It was his mantra.  Live for today.  He’d told me that so often that it was ingrained in my memory like an auditory tattoo.  I hesitated, one foot on the sidewalk, the other on the industrial carpet in the entryway.

Okay, that's all for now.  Hope you check back next Sunday for another snippet.  If you want to read some more juicy excerpts, just go here: http://www.sixsunday.com/

Six Sentence Sunday May 13, 2012

Hello again,

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Here are Six more sentences from my contemporary romance which is still under the working title "How Long Does it Take (to fall out of love)?" It is slated for publication September 22, 2012.

This scene takes place right after the second explosion at the plastics plant.  The two friends, Liz and Veronica, were having lunch at a sidewalk cafe not too far away.  They had just leapt to their feet to see what they could see after the first explosion.  Then the second one occurred.  Liz is the narrator:

My head grazed a table as I fell.  I sensed the concrete rushing up to meet me, but there was no pain; instead, silence engulfed me like deep water.  Everything slowed.  After a moment, I became aware that my knees were bleeding inside my new white Capri’s; spackles of blood were seeping through.  That’s when I spotted Ronnie crawling across the blistered sidewalk toward me.  Her face was dotted with red like a Botox-party nightmare.

That's it for today!  Hope you enjoyed it.  See ya next Sunday.  If you would like to participate in Six Sentence Sunday, or if you would like to read other author's excerpts, go to http://www.sixsunday.com/

Six Sentence Sunday

Easter Sunday -- April 8, 2012

This is actually the very first paragraph of The Phantom Pilot.  This scene shows Stevie standing on the porch of the old Taylor mansion:

I was twelve years old, standing knock-kneed in pigtails and ripped denim in front of a haunted house, trying to dig up enough courage to go inside.  But I was terrified.  I’d read the books; I’d seen the movies on Shock Theater.  No matter what, you don’t go inside the spooky old house.  No matter who dares you, no matter what lures you.  You do not go in.

This YA novella is book one of The Phantom Series, available at Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.  Book two will be out in October.

Six Sentence Sunday Excerpt from The Phantom Pilot

Six Sentence Sunday Excerpt: The Phantom Pilot

This excerpt is taken from the story Jase wrote about what happened that night:

4/1/12   The Shepherd

The West Texas night-wind whispered and whistled around the window frames.  I was in my mom’s favorite chair reading The Tell-Tale Heart when I heard the stuttering drone of a small plane.  In our rural setting, it sounded very low and very loud.
            Then the noise stopped.
Lady, the German shepherd I’d found lying mangled and near death beside the road, was standing in front of the picture-window, head cocked to one side.
The silence was thick and cold.

This YA novella is book one of The Phantom Series, available at Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.  Book two will be out in October.
