WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS |
Hi, Folks!
Another snippet from Stutter Creek, Romantic Suspense from 5 Prince Publishing. It will be out June 1st -- only one more snippet after this!
In this snippet, Beth happens upon John and Turk outside her cabin. He'd seen suspicious tracks near her cabin (the serial killer, scoping her out), and he knew someone was staying there, he just didn't know who it was. When she encountered them, she was shocked and said "John, is that really you? Don't you know me? It's Beth, Beth Brannock (her maiden name)." This is where we pick up...
“Of course I know you, Bethie. I’d know you anywhere.” His gaze was direct, his voice kind. “Can’t believe you’re here, that’s all.” Then he grinned, his eyes crinkling
merrily. “You’ve gotta admit, it’s been
awhile.”
Beth
caught herself reflecting his grin right back at him. “Only twenty-odd years,” she crowed. “Heck, I’ve barely had time to turn around
and here you are again, just like that summer . . . ”

Ok, the footprints around the house are creepy. What does she know at this point, anything? Inquiring minds...
Nice #8 - makes the reader want to read on about these two and their relationship long ago - and if it will spark again. Well done.
Enjoyed the easy tone of conversation between them! I'm glad John is looking out for her - excellent excerpt!
Just like that summer...what?
Looking forward to next week's eight to see what happens next.
Love the scene. Ann, I think 'she crowed' might be deleted. It's just the two of them delighted to see each other.
I love those reuniting old love stories. Lovely eight sentences.
This is a fortunate meeting for her if serial killers are after her. Maybe he can save her. Nice excerpt.
She doesn't know about the footprints. She's sort of oblivious. LOL She will find out soon, though!
Thank you, Susan. Only one more post before the release date is here!
Thanks so much ~ here's a {{hug}}!
Ahh, you may have missed that excerpt. They fell in "like" one summer as teens. LOL
And what happened "that" summer? Intriguing.
Thanks, Charmaine. I think it's too late, though. It's already gone to print! I agree with you, though. It kind of stuck out when I read it, too. =)
Thanks, Penny. I appreciate that!
Thanks, Elaine...maybe he can!
That's the summer they bonded as teens...and then lost track of each other after that.
They have a past, very nice. And he calls her Bethie. That evokes memories of long ago summers. Great snippet!
Thanks, Virginia. I hoped it would make the reader think of them and their past.
Love the warmth between them, picking up where they left off! Their comfort with each other is obvious.
Thanks so much, Gemma. Glad you think so!
I love Beth's sense of humor! Time doesn't exactly fly when you're waiting for your soulmate to show up (not that either of them were waiting, oh, nooo). :)
Thanks, Sara. I love when the Muse puts something in unexpectedly. LOL
Woa, 20 years is a long time. I can't believe they both remember each other. Sounds like "that" summer was special for both of them. Can't wait to read more!
Woa, it's been 20 years. I can't believe they both remember one another. It seems like "that" summer left an impression on both of them. Can't wait to read more!
Ain't it the truth? I wish I'd aged half that well--my own relatives barely recognize me. LOL
Awww. That was romantic. I like the last line. Seems like they could easily pick up where they left off.
History Sleuth's Writing mysteries.
Thanks, Cindy...maybe they will!
I really, really want to read this. Great snippet.
Thanks, Karysa. I hope you entered the GR giveaway...
Just like that summer... I'm intrigued to know more. :)
Very romantic! After 20 years and he still calls her 'Bethie'.
Thanks, Karen...it will be out in just a few more days. =)
Isn't he sweet? =)
Must of been quite and encounter, 20 years ago! Old flame?
Yep, she went looking for an old flame and found a serial killer instead!
Well, heck, those good looking guys turn up in the darndest places! ;) Thank GOD!! LOL!
Haha! Thank God is right!
Damn - hate it when that happens!
They must have left quite the impression on each other, responding like this after so long. Their surprise/excitement is conveyed well.
