Weekend Writing Warriors

Hello all ~ Six Sentence Sunday is no more.  Now get ready for a new writing series called
                                                         Weekend Writing Warriors.

My first installment of 8 sentences is from my upcoming Romantic Thriller,  Stutter Creek.  It will be out in June, 2013 from 5 Prince Publishing.  I will post another snippet each Sunday.  Stay tuned!

Following her father’s death and the collapse of her marriage, Beth retreats to the family cabin at Stutter Creek where she stumbles across the path of a serial killer and winds up fighting just to stay alive.

Stutter Creek

Chapter One

Amanda Myers was making a conscious effort to keep her heavy foot off the Toyota’s gas pedal when she spied what appeared to be a small boy standing beside the road. An old fashioned newsboy cap nearly obscured his tiny face.
Mandy hit the brake and steered the Celica toward the gravel shoulder. With a practiced hand, she quickly texted her coworker, Myra, and asked her to concoct a cover story for her tardiness.
The kid had seemed very small in silhouette—maybe five or six years old—and no house or vehicle in sight.
When Myra texted back to say the boss was on the warpath, Mandy replied, “Well, just tell him I stopped to pick up a boy on the edge of town. That should really turn his face red!”
It was an inside joke; everyone knew when the boss’s face was red it was wise to give him a wide berth.

Afterthought:  Be sure to return to wewriwa.com to read 8 sentence snippets from the other awesome authors!  And if you leave a comment on this post, you will be entered in the drawing for a $10 Amazon gift card from my publisher, 5 Prince Publishing. Don't forget to leave your email address so the publisher can contact you if you win.  =)

Just reading your blurb, I'm excited about this one, as it sounds like my kind of read!

For other readers, I've read one of Ann's novels, her YA short story CHEMS, and I just started "All For Love" yesterday, which I will share a preview of on my blog this Tuesday.

That said, if you love descriptive writing, Ann's your girl. She literally sets you directly into the scene visually, physically, and even your taste buds. Yes, at one point, I swore I tasted the smoke in the air. That is taking "showing" the reader to all new level. Kudos, Ms. Swann. :)

It all seems so innocuous, but ifeel there's a lot more to the boy than it appears here.

Thanks, Carmen. I look forward to being on your blog!

I want to know so much more. What Amanda does for a living, why she isn't bothered about upsetting her boss, why on earth she would assume that the boy was lost and not on his way to school? I love snippets that make me question everything.

Hi Ann, I've only read your voice in The Phantom Pilot. :-) I'm a fan of Stevie-girl.

This snippet is a good introduction--lots of information, but not too much-- just enough to move the reader along to look for what will happen next.

Good eight. :-)

Thanks, Kim. I hope to answer your questions as the weeks go by... =)

Thanks, Teresa. I'm glad you like Stevie-girl. The third book is being edited as we speak. =)

A great hook to open the novel with. I want to know who the boy is and why he's so far from anywhere on his own at that age. Also, what does she do for a living and what kind of relationship does she have with her boss?

Interesting, raises SO many questions inagoodway. I can't wait to read more (and I can just visualize the red faced boss LOL). Terrific excerpt!

Thanks so much, Veronica!

All good questions, Clare. I will post the next 8 next week!
